Miscellaneous

N.A.R.I.A.
Open project about creating or simulating human-like intelligence with the help of neural networks. The main goal is to copy the functions of the human brain in an efficient way onto normal home computers.
Boosting
Website on Boosting and related ensemble learning methods, e.g. Boosting, Arcing, Bagging, the connection to mathematical programming and large margin classifiers, and model selection. The aim is to serve as a central information source by providing links to papers, upcoming events, datasets, code, etc.
Neuro-IT
A network sponsored by the EU, which aims at bringing together neuroscientists and IT people. It differs from neuroinformatics in the sense that it is not IT for neuroscience, but rather it focusses on what findings of neuroscience can be of interest to IT community.
Kernel Machines
Site with resources focused on kernel machines.

Brain Architecture Management System
The Brain Architecture Management System (BAMS) is designed to be a repository of information about brain structures from different species, and has a set of inference engines for processing the neurobiological data. BAMS contains to date four interrelated modules: Brain Parts (brain regions, major fiber tracts, and ventricles), Cell Types, Relations (between structures from different neuroanatomical atlases), and Connections.
Brain Atlas of Monkey
Stereotaxic MRI Brain Atlas of Monkey
BrainInfo
BrainInfo is designed to help you identify structures in the brain. If you provide the name of a structure, BrainInfo will show it and tell you about it. If you don't know the name but can locate the structure in the Template Atlas of the Primate Brain, BrainInfo will tell you its name and other facts about it.
BIRN
BIRN represents the first attempt to develop a "protocol" for collaborative research among neuroscientists and medical scientists. It depends on the new computational and networking technologies that have been developed to bring researchers together over the Internet, and it also depends on still newer technologies for federating data from multiple sources. It depends even more on the social integration of the scientific groups that will be sharing their data and, ultimately, making their collective results public.
FlyBrain
Flybrain contains neuroanatomical peer reviewed descriptions of the central and peripheral nervous system of Drosophila melanogaster . At the 'entry level' of the 'Atlas', the user will find a hypertext tour guide to the basic structure of the nervous system. Deeper levels will contain more specific information concerning different anatomical structures, developmental stages, and visualization techniques.
Human Brain Project
The Human Brain Project evolved from the concept of a National Neural Circuitry Database; the idea of developing such a national resource was evaluated by a committee empanelled by the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine. A summary of that evaluation, which spanned two years and included consultation with about 150 scientists, was published in the summer of 1991 by the National Academy Press as a book entitled Mapping the Brain and its Functions: Integrating Enabling Technologies into Neuroscience Research. The report recommended that this initiative, now called the Human Brain Project, be implemented.
KDnuggets
A comporehensive website for Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery.
Mouse Atlas Project (MAP)
The goal of the Mouse Atlas Project (MAP) is to empower researchers with the ability to compare gene expression patterns with a conveniently accessible inventory of digital brain maps. It aims to produce a powerful imaging framework to house and correlate gene expression with anatomic and molecular information drawn from traditional and novel imaging technologies.
NeuroGuide
A searchable and browsable index of neuroscience resources available on the Internet: Neurobiology, neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, psychology, cognitive science sites and information on human neurological diseases.
Visible Human Project®
The Visible Human Project® is an outgrowth of the NLM's 1986 Long-Range Plan. It is the creation of complete, anatomically detailed, three-dimensional representations of the normal male and female human bodies. Acquisition of transverse CT, MR and cryosection images of representative male and female cadavers has been completed. The male was sectioned at one millimeter intervals, the female at one-third of a millimeter intervals.
WormBase
WormBase is an international consortium of biologists and computer scientists dedicated to providing the research community with accurate, current, accessible information concerning the genetics, genomics and biology of C. elegans and some related nematodes. Founded in 2000.
Xanat
XANAT is a computer program that facilitates the analysis of neuroanatomical data by storing the results of numerous tracer studies in a standardized format, and by providing various tools for performing summaries and comparisons of these studies. Data are entered by drawing injection and label sites directly onto canonical representations of the neuroanatomical structures of interest, along with providing descriptive text information. Searches may then be performed on the data by querying the database graphically according to injection or label site, or via text information (i.e., keyword search). Analyses may also be performed by accumulating data across multiple studies and displaying a color coded map that graphically represents the total evidence for connectivity between regions.
ZFIN
ZFIN serves as the zebrafish model organism database. The long term goals for ZFIN are a) to be the community database resource for the laboratory use of zebrafish, b) to develop and support integrated zebrafish genetic, genomic and developmental information, c) to maintain the definitive reference data sets of zebrafish research information, d) to link this information extensively to corresponding data in other model organism and human databases, e) to facilitate the use of zebrafish as a model for human biology and f) to serve the needs of the research community.
Neural101
Non-commercial site for information related to trading the financial markets using neural networks. Includes message bases, links and database of trading indicators, systems, and scans.
Neuroquant
Site devoted to the research and development of trading systems for financial markets using artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms.
Machine Learning in Games
How computers can learn to get better at playing games. A site for artificial intelligence researchers and intrepid game programmers. It describes game programs and their workings; they rely on heuristic search algorithms, neural networks, genetic algorithms, temporal differences, and other methods.
