| INNS: The International Neural Network Society |
|
The International Neural Network Society (INNS) is the premiere organization for individuals
interested in a theoretical and computational understanding of the brain and applying that
knowledge to develop new and more effective forms of machine intelligence. INNS was formed in
1987. The Society has grown rapidly to encompass a worldwide membership.

ENNS: European Neural Network Society |
|
The European Neural Network Society (ENNS) is an association of scientists, engineers, students,
and others seeking to learn about and advance our understanding of the modelling of behavioral
and brain processes and to apply neural modelling concepts to problems relevant in many different
domains.

| SNN: The Dutch Foundation for Neural Networks |
|
SNN is a non-for-profit foundation that was founded in 1989 as one of the SPIN (Department of
Economic Affairs) initiatives. The statutes of SNN define the goal of SNN as follows:
1) to improve the level of knowledge in the field of neural networks in the Netherlands and
2) to stimulate the transfer of knowledge from university to business and government.
SNN's activities are funded in part by the SNN-STW Platform Adaptive Intelligence.

SSLS: Swedish Learning Systems Society |
|
The Swedish Learning Systems Society - SSLS - is an association of people interested in learning
systems. Working group for ANN was formed June 7 1991. As a first measure the ANN working group
took the initiative to establish SNNS, the Swedish Neural Network Society. Since the start, the
field has developed, and the area of interests of SNNS has therefore been extended to cover nearby
areas. The working group changed it name to the Working Group of Learning Systems, and at the annual
meeting November 25th 1999 SNNS changed it name to SSLS - the Swedish Learning Systems Society.

SIREN: Italian Neural Network Society |
|
The SIREN (Società Italiana Reti Neurali - Italian Society for Neural Networks) was founded in 1989.
SIREN promotes and develops studies, researches and seminars in the field of neural networks.
Through the coordination of the activity of Italian groups carrying out neural networks research,
SIREN's aim is that of favouring the development of an adequate cultural enviroment in order to
qualify more extensively the Italian presence at the international level, as well as that of organizing
the Italian participation in European projects.

CSCSI: Canadian Society for Computational Studies of Intelligence |
|
It was founded in 1973. Initially it was a small group of academics and graduate students interested in AI.
CSCSI/SCEIO exists as a special interest group of CIPS for the promotion of interest and activity in AI.
Under this banner CSCSI/SCEIO conducts workshops and a fully refereed national conference every two years.
It also publishes a magazine, Canadian AI/IA au Canada Magazine, and sponsors the journal Computational
Intelligence.

APNNA: Asian Pacific Neural Network Assembly |
|
APNNA, founded in 1993, is focused on promoting more active interaction
of researchers, scientists, and industry professional who are working in the Neural Network and related
fields in the Asia Pacific region.

NEuroNet: European Network of Excellence in Neural Networks [Finished?] |
|
NEuroNet was a "Network of Excellence" in Neural Networks. It aimed to promote the field of
Neural Networks within Europe, and in particular to encourage technology transfer.
The main objectives for NEuroNet II (the most recent phase of NEuroNet, which came to an end
in March 2001) were: to set up Industrial Clubs to help make neural network technology accessible
to industry; to develop a Technological Roadmap to chart the state-of-the-art and future prospects
of neural networks.
|
| IEEE NNS: IEEE Neural Networks Society [Name Change?] |
|
The purpose of the Society is to advance and coordinate work in the field of Neural Networks
carried out throughout the IEEE and as such is exclusively scientific, literary and educational
in character. In furtherance of the foregoing, the Society may publish appropriate periodicals,
sponsor IEEE Neural Networks related conferences and conference sessions, sponsor IEEE Press
publications, and engage in any other activity within its field of interest.
|
|
IEEE NNC: IEEE Neural Network Technical Committee |
|
The purpose of the NNTC is to promote the research, development, education, and understanding
of neural networks technology, including the creation of biological neural network models and
the application of artificial neural networks. The NNTC is open to any members of the IEEE,
as well as to other technical professionals as affiliates. The NNTC shall engage in various
activities in order to promote the wider acceptance of neural networks as a viable technology.

|
IEEE SMC: IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society |
|
SMC focuses on integration of the theories of communication, control, cybernetics, stochastics,
optimization, and system structure towards the formulation of a general theory of systems.
|
| ISAB: International Society for Adaptive Behavior |
|
ISAB, is an international scientific society devoted to education and furthering research
on adaptive behavior in animals, animats, software agents, and robots.
|
| SFN: Society for Neuroscience |
|
The Society for Neuroscience is a nonprofit membership organization of basic scientists and
physicians who study the brain and nervous system. Neuroscience includes the study of brain
development, sensation and perception, learning and memory, movement, sleep, stress, aging
and neurological and psychiatric disorders. It also includes the molecules, cells and genes
responsible for nervous system functioning. Recognizing the tremendous potential for the study
of the brain and nervous system as a separate field, the Society was formed in 1970.

| CNS: Cognitive Neuroscience Society |
|
The Cognitive Neuroscience Society (CNS) is committed to the development of mind and brain
research aimed at investigating the psychological, computational, and neuroscientific bases
of cognition. The term cognitive neuroscience has now been with us for almost three decades,
and identifies an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the nature of thought.
